Light of Learning Award

Marian participates in the Light of Learning Award program.  The program gives Catholic schools an opportunity to recognize one of their outstanding teachers and assists the entire diocese of Fort Wayne–South Bend in honoring its excellent teaching staff.  The winner in each school must receive written votes from students, parents and fellow teachers.  Each voter must list specific reasons for his or her choice.

Teachers with two or more years of experience are eligible candidates.   Students, faculty, and parents make their nominations based on the following:  experience, Christian model, student motivation, involvement in co and extra-curricular activities, knowledge of subject matter, and ability to relate to students.  The nominators are encouraged to write a narrative description on why their nominee should be considered for the award.  Once again, voting is always close because we have many excellent teachers to choose from.

This year's winner is Mr. Mark Kirzeder (2007-2008).  Past Winners of this Award include Sr.  Marie Morgan, Ms. Michele Long, Mr. Michael Largey, Fr. Dan Scheidt, Mrs. Beth Robinson, Mrs. Ashley Bennett, Mrs. Kitty Gunty, Mrs. Marie-Rose McKenna, Sr. Judith Diltz, Mr. Robert VanGoey, and Mrs. Mary Kay Dance.
