Marian is the only local high school who was ranked in the TOP TEN of all Indiana high schools for College Preparedness according to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Marian offers college-level classes to students while still in high school. Through a partnership with Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College, Marian offers a variety of dual credit courses that count as both college and high school credit. This partnership provides students with a college level course at no additional cost to the student or family.

A Dual Credit course is a college course, incorporating the same syllabi, class assignments, and examinations while utilizing comparable textbooks. Students taking dual credit classes meet the same academic readiness standards as students taking the course in college. High school faculty members teaching a course for dual credit meet the credentialing requirements of the dual credit institution and the licensing requirements of the Indiana Department of Education.

Many dual credit courses at Marian are considered honors courses, and students who accept the challenge of taking these courses at Marian have the potential to earn additional grade point average points. Upon graduation, these credits can be transferred to other state colleges and universities. More information on course transfers can be found at http://www.transferin.net/

Marian also offers Advanced Placement Courses. Marian faculty members are approved to teach AP courses by the College Board.

AP courses provide students the opportunity to earn college credit at colleges and universities across the country. Credit is determined by the college or university based upon a student’s score on the AP exam given in May of each academic year.

Indiana public colleges are now required to award at least elective credit to students earning a score of 3, 4 or 5 on the respective AP test.  No grade is attached to the student’s college transcript for an AP class. AP courses at Marian are considered honors courses, and students who accept the challenge of taking AP courses at Marian have the potential to earn additional grade point average points. For more information on Marian's Dual Credit course offerings, please contact the Assistant Principal Anne Brusky at 259-5257.
