Anthony J. DeDario II ‘68 passed away on October 6, 2023. He is survived by his partner, Patrick Bickel; his two sons, Vincent ‘99 (Kristen) DeDario and Nicholas (Christina) DeDario; his former wife and mother of his sons, Jenny Newhart DeDario; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Ella, Lilly, Liam, Chloe, Delilah and Dominic; and a sister, Mrs. Carol Grillo of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony J. and Doris A. (Mannock) DeDario, and a sister, Dorothy Dukeshier. Tony graduated from Marian High School in Mishawaka in 1968. He received his B.A. in English Literature from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1972. He was employed for many years in the floral business, working as a designer and florist for Matzke Florists in the 1970s, Westview Florist in the 1980s and then Olive Garden as the manager during the 1990s. In 2005, he took a position at Linton's Enchanted Gardens as a designer and florist until 2019. Never one to sit idle, Tony then began working at Four Winds Casino in South Bend as the front desk clerk, a job he truly loved. He acted in and directed many productions with the Elkhart Civic Theatre and the South Bend Civic Theatre. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and volunteered at the Lerner Theatre. Tony was also a bird lover and will be missed by Mango and Lucky.

Robert "Bob" Paul Kepler ‘69 passed away on July 19, 2023. Surviving are his wife, Laura (Blackledge) Kepler, four daughters: Melissa, Brandi (Tony), Tera (Kevin) Richards, Christie; a stepson, Michael (Amber); three sisters: Linda ‘70 Kepler-McConahay (Terry) Walters, Kimberly Kepler (Tim) Sowala and Karen Kepler Zeigler. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis E. and Gloria Jean (Vervaet) Kepler. A native of Mishawaka, Indiana, Bob graduated from Marian High School in 1969. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years in the US Air Force. Following his military career, he also retired from International Paper. He spent his retirement with his family, volunteering in his church, was an avid fisherman, and was a woodcarver who created timeless works of art for family and friends.

Robert “Bob” L. Micinski ‘69 passed away on November 7, 2023 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Bob is survived by his wife, Ginger Hostetler; his children: Cynthia (Daniel) Moryl and Jeramy (Nancy) Micinski; son in law: Larry Hauguel; his grandchildren: Grace, Seth, Selah, Dana (David), and Elizabeth ‘20; his siblings: Linda Steenbeke, Sue (Tom) Shellenberger, Janet Beckman, David (Darlene) Micinski, and John (Becky) Micinski. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter: Sheila Hauguel, and his brother in law John Steenbeke. Bob graduated from Marian High School, class of 1969. He went on to be a commercial truck driver before working as a Manager with the McCormick Spice Company. Bob loved taking trips to the Caribbean with Ginger, fishing, playing games -especially poker, chess, and Mario Kart - going to car shows, rock hunting, working on puzzles, and spending time with his friends and family. He found joy in the beauty of the countryside, spending time in the outdoors just walking around and taking in the sights.

Anne Z. (Mahaney) Rogers ‘69 passed away November 11, 2023. She is survived by her sisters, Janine Simmons and Barbara ‘74 (John) Germano; her nephews: William (June Lyle) Simmons, Thomas (Julie) Simmons, John (Emily) Germano, and Joseph Germano; her grandnephews: Quinn Simmons, Liam Simmons, and Dominic Simmons; her grandniece, Eliot Simmons; and her longtime partner, Scott Litherland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Rogers. A native of South Bend, after attending St. Matthew’s grade school, Mishawaka Marian High School, and Indiana University, she initially taught journalism at Lawrence High School.  Anne eventually left teaching for advertising and then public relations. In 1989, she and Scott opened their own public relations agency (Parallax Communications Group, Inc.) which served multiple healthcare and science clients for over 25 years. Anne loved her family, friends, and her dogs, not necessarily in that order. She loved watching her nephew Bill’s plays, painting, playing guitar, photography, and politics. She was a dyed-in-the-wool, liberal Democrat. She was also the family historian, making photos, slideshows, and writing songs for birthdays and family gatherings. When her nephew, Tom, played football in high school and college, her clever signs always made the television broadcast. She could do anything, but she wasn’t much of a cook, once forgetting to turn the oven on at Thanksgiving. She was happiest with a good pot roast, and a warm bottle of Coca-Cola.

James "Jim" Szekendi ‘69 passed away peacefully on December 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Paula, his sons Timothy and Thomas, sister Susan (Dana) Hanefeld, sister Mary Jo Szekendi, brother-in-law Father Ronald Mrozinski, and countless other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Joseph Szekendi, and his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Clementine Mrozinski. A native of South Bend, Jim attended St. Mary's of the Assumption Grade School and was a 1969 graduate of Marian High School. He then enrolled at Indiana University South Bend where he graduated in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in business. As a man of faith and a devout Catholic, Jim enjoyed serving as the Director of Human Resources at Sisters of the Holy Cross, where he spent 10 wonderful years before retiring after a 43 year career in human resources. A sincere, humble, and compassionate person, Jim never hesitated to lend a hand to someone in need and quietly did acts of kindness simply because he enjoyed helping people. His passion for his family and friends was evident, especially when it centered around athletics. He loved coaching his son's basketball and baseball teams, serving as President for the Knute Rockne/Babe Ruth Baseball League and spending numerous summers coaching and throwing countless rounds of batting practice to his boys and their friends at Chet Waggoner Little League. In his later years he ("Pa" or "Uncle Mr. Szekendi") enjoyed supporting his friend's children and grandchildren in their athletic adventures. Jim loved golf just as much as the core group of friends he enjoyed playing with, and he enthusiastically checked off a bucket list item this past spring when he attended The Masters Golf Tournament. In his spare time and in retirement, he could often be found working on a jigsaw or crossword puzzle, reading books about sports or history, or watching a Chicago White Sox, Cubs, or Bears game on television.

Michael Joseph DeWinter ‘70 passed away on November 20, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne DeWinter, and their son Aaron ‘91 (Merri Ellen) DeWinter; as well as grandchildren Maddie (Jacob) Goncalves, Griffin DeWinter, Britt (Nikki) Erp, Hayley (Jeremy) Tillman, Gabe (Kamrie) Helmus, and six great grandchildren, Aria and Jupiter Tillman, Lilly, Saint and Vianna Helmus, and Leilani Goncalves. He was preceded in death by his brother Terry DeWinter and his sister-in-law, Kay DeWinter. A lifelong resident of Mishawaka, Mike graduated from Marian High School and later attended IU South Bend. Mike found his professional calling in the parts department of Krizman Inc. in Mishawaka, where he worked for many years, but his true passion was his love for music. His talent was evident in his performances with the Jack Norris Combo and the Britches Band, where he played the piano and keyboard. When age made it difficult for him to play the piano, he taught himself to play the bass guitar and the harmonica. Michael loved spending time outdoors, often going boating and spending time with his family on Lake Tippecanoe. In his later years, he took up bird watching, with a particular fondness for the hummingbirds that gathered at his feeders.

Douglas P. Block ‘71 passed away on July 24, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen ‘71; children, Travis ‘98 (Nancy) Block, Eric ‘99 (Jamie) Block, Kevin ‘02 Block, and Cory ‘04 (Sarah) Block; five grandchildren; sisters, Janis Block and Melinda ‘69 (Richard) Rasmussen; brother, Donald ‘73 (Debbie) Block; and four nieces and nephews. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Jack) and Marie Block, his brother, Thomas Block, and his nephew Gregory Falk. A native of South bend, Douglas graduated from Marian High School in 1971 before joining the IBEW Local 153, working as a union electrician for 40 years. Douglas was a coach of various sports over several years and was a selfless giver of his time and talents. Coach Block impacted the lives of many young athletes and numerous parish festivals, school programs, and charity drives benefited from having Douglas in their rolodex.  Above all, he excelled at loving his family and engaging in their lives.

Dennis "Denny" Lee Foster ‘71 passed away on August 30, 2023. Surviving are his best friend and loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Ann (Samuels) Foster; loving daughter Theresa Ann (Tony) Detwiler; two grandchildren, Toryn Sean and Chloe Rhiannon Detwiler; his father, Bernard Lee Foster; three brothers, Gary (April) Foster, Daniel ‘77 (Karen) Foster, Patrick ‘81 (Katy) Foster; and two sisters, Beth ‘79 (Ken) Mahaffa and Paula ‘82 (Todd) Checkley; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. A native of Elkhart, Denny graduated from Mishawaka Marian High School in 1971. He was active in sports, lettering in cross- country, track, and wrestling, where he was a team captain his senior year. Denny worked as an Industrial Electrician, starting his career at Dragoo Electric. He worked in Florida and then returned home and worked for 3 Phase and Moyer Electric for 18 years until he retired. He continued to help out at Moyer, and he especially enjoyed helping the young apprentice electricians with all of his knowledge after 30-plus years in the business. Denny was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Elkhart Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed camping, listening to Rock and Roll music, and had encyclopedic knowledge of classic movies. Above all else, Denny was a force of nature and had an indomitable spirit - he never quit.

Julie Rittenhouse ‘75 passed away on October 11, 2023. Julie is survived by siblings Aimee ‘76 (James) Kelly, Mary Beth ‘78 (Gary) Vargyas, Peter ‘80 (Kim) Rittenhouse, Rebecca ‘86 (Robert) Kelly, and John ‘89 (Jennifer) Rittenhouse; and 17 nieces and nephews. Born in California, Julie grew up in Mishawaka, Indiana, graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. She joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, serving first in Detroit and then in Cleveland. Julie earned a degree from the School of Applied Social Work and worked at the Sisters of Charity, GAR Foundation, and the Foundation of Cleveland State University. Most recently, she was Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Cleveland State University, where she also spent 18 years as an adjunct faculty member teaching grant proposal writing at the Levin College of Urban Affairs. Julie helped to transform St. Patrick Parish, Ohio City and Cleveland, crucially galvanizing the Housing First Initiative that led to more than 900 safe, clean residences for people who had been chronically homeless. She aided in the formation of the Cleveland Housing Network and rose to become board chair of Cleveland Mental Health Services, which became FrontLine Service. She was also board chair of the Senior Transportation Connection, a nonprofit that helps seniors and people with disabilities move about the city. As the social concerns chair of the Notre Dame Club of Cleveland, Ms. Rittenhouse put in decades of effective service, memorialized when the club voted in 2001 to honor her as the first woman to receive "The Man of the Year" award.

Jeffrey Lynn Neely ‘78 passed away on April 14, 2023. Jeff is survived by his children, Kaelyn (Morgan Petty) Neely and Ethan Neely; mother, Therese Gardner; step-father, John Gardner; sisters, Brenda ‘77, Christine, Toni and Tracy and brother, Todd Neely; as well as many extended family members and friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Roger Neely. A native of Elkhart, Jeff went on to work in the Michiana area RV industry, retail, and as a grounds keeper for Elcona Country Club. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved to watch IU Basketball. He had a passion for bicycling and enjoyed trying his hand at fishing and golfing. If it had to do with being outside in the sunshine, you could count him in. Jeff had an eye for landscaping and gardening, making his kitchen full of fresh fruits and vegetables each season. He was a lifelong learner and was always willing to try new hobbies or activities. Jeff’s kind and generous spirit shone through in his endless hours of volunteer work with the elderly and contributions to fundraisers of all kinds. He was always happy to attend local events such as the 4H fair or art and music festivals.

John David Inwood ‘80 passed away on December 3, 2022 after a two-year battle with bladder cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Kathryn Inwood, and his brother, Paul ‘74 Inwood. John is survived by his wife Vicki Inwood; four children: Ryan Inwood, Caitlin Inwood, Megan (JJ) Hjalmarson, and Patrick Inwood; and two sisters: Patricia (John) Krol and Mary ‘76 (Michael) Krusniak. A native of South Bend, Indiana, John had his first job working in his father’s store, “Inwood’s”, joined the high school golf team, and discovered his faith through the Catholic Church. After graduating high school as the Salutatorian of his class, he was accepted to University of Notre Dame where he studied Philosophy and his devotion to the Fighting Irish began. Following his college graduation he went on to pursue a JD MBA at Indiana University where he met his wife Vicki in 1985 while watching a basketball game in the student lounge in Eigenmann Hall. Shortly after graduation, in 1988 he married Vicki and they moved to their first home together in Evanston, Illinois. They welcomed their children Ryan, Caitlin and Megan here while John started his 34-year long career in law at Chapman & Cutler in Chicago. After six and a half years, he was recruited by Bingham Dana LLP and the family moved to Avon, CT where their fourth child, Patrick, was born. They purchased a charming New England home in Avon and bought their first dog, a German Shepherd named Bogey (a nod to his lifelong passion for golf). His latest position moved them to Atlanta, GA where he most recently held the title of Sr. Vice President after 22 years at Voya Financial. John was a dedicated husband and a loving father, and it’s reasonable to say he considered himself Notre Dame’s number one fan. He pursued a variety of passions throughout his life including golf, collecting wine, barbequing, fishing, and tending to his backyard birds. Above all, however, his greatest joy in life were his children. He never missed a swim meet, football game, or play and was their biggest cheerleader. (Posted March 27, 2024)

James Allen Van Nevel ‘85 passed away on August 12, 2023. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kristine (Barker) Van Nevel; three sons, Joshua Van Nevel, Noah Van Nevel, Caleb Van Nevel; sister, Mary (Chris) Morales; three brothers, Rich ‘72 (Anita) Van Nevel, Larry ‘74 Van Nevel, Joe ‘82 (June) Van Nevel; sister-in-law, Janet Van Nevel; best friend, Liz (J.T. Farley) Graupner; 12 nieces and nephews, including Zachary ‘09, Jocelyn ‘11, and Brock ‘18 Van Nevel; 13 great nieces and nephews; and many extended family members, many friends and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Van Nevel; mother, Theresa Van Nevel; three brothers, Mike Van Nevel, David Van Nevel, John Van Nevel; sister-in-law, Peggy Van Nevel. A native of South Bend, Jim graduated from Purdue University and was a teacher for 22 years at Chesterton Middle School. He was an active supporter and parent cheerleader for his son's swim teams. Jim was an avid fisherman and loved the beach. He loved the outdoors, aquariums and zoos. Jim enjoyed gardening and chip carving. He was a huge Notre Dame Football fan and supporter of everything Chesterton. Jim was a loving husband, son, brother and father. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Mark Andrew Brant ‘87 passed away unexpectedly on March 06, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Angela. Left to cherish the memory of Mark is the love of his life, Megan C. LaFollette; his father, John Brant; siblings, Maureen (Dan) Wozniak, Aaron (Renee) Brant, Adrienne (Tom) Simpson, Corinne ‘90 (Jeff) Rose; father-in-law, Michael (Patricia) LaFollette; and sister-in-law, Michaele (Nathaniel) Heffner. A native of South Bend, Mark graduated from Marian High School in 1987, then went on to earn his Bachelor Degree from IUSB. He was in a garage band and on the wrestling team in high school. Mark taught for the South Bend School Corporation until retiring. He enjoyed being outdoors, skiing, hiking, gardening, bicycling, and drumming. In 2018, he moved to Chesterton to build a future with his love, Megan. Mark was a caring, playful person who brought joy to their home. He loved all his dogs throughout his life. Mark will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Patrick Michael Rienks ‘88 passed away on November 9th, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Hanna Grady Rienks; their two sons, Halen and Nolan; parents Michael and Mary Rienks; younger sister Kelley ‘90 Shrock Ramaley (Rienks); brother-in-law Thomas Ramaley; nephew Andrew ‘26 Shrock; nieces Amanda ‘20 Shrock and Sarah ‘21 Shrock; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Patrick was a graduate of Marian High School, Mishawaka, IN (1988), and earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (1992) from Trine University, Angola, IN (formerly Tri-State University) and an International M.B.A. from Duke University, Durham, NC (2005). Patrick worked in various Executive and Sales roles, selling many products including industrial water pumps and filters, and most recently was President of North American Operations for Vesuvius Flow Control North. Patricks' sons meant the world to him, and he was proud of their academic, personal, and athletic achievements, including Halen studying Engineering at North Carolina State University, and Nolan playing football and basketball at Marvin Ridge High School. Patrick never met a stranger and loved hosting neighborhood parties, helping neighbors with household projects, and providing a place for his sons and their friends to have time together. 

Kimberly Marie McInerney ‘00 passed away on May 1, 2023, after her courageous journey with cancer. She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Hobe; her father, Kevin D. (Denise) McInerney; two sisters, Lauren (Paul) Taylor and Maureen McInerney; two step-sisters, DeNae L. (Rodger) McKim and Sarah E. Norris; two brothers, Aaron (Janelle McCollum) McInerney and Kevin J. (Christine) McInerney; her Godchild and niece, Leah Summerfield; her nephew RJ McKim; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kimberly graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Master of Nonprofit Administration degree in 2010, and was currently a teaching professor and coordinator of the public speaker course in the Communications Department at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB). She enjoyed travelling the world from Alaska to Italy, hosting girls' dinners, making friends with everyone she met, being Irish Catholic, caring for several high maintenance pets, and making the world a better place. She was a respected colleague who loved her work family. She was also active in the local community, spending many volunteer hours organizing South Bend's Urban Adventure Games.

Mark David Wilson ‘05 passed away on December 6, 2023. He is survived by his partner, Andrew Sales; parents Tom & Linda Wilson, and brothers Shaun ‘03 (Elizabeth) and Scott ‘08 (Constance) as well as his four nieces and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ralph and Dorothy Putz and paternal grandparents Hugh & Wiletta Wilson. Mark graduated from Marian High School and Indiana University. He went on to work in the health technologies space - a career that took him all over the country. From Florida to Delaware, Washington to Arizona and his home state of Indiana, Mark made many friends and memories wherever he went. Mark will be fondly remembered for many admirable traits and hobbies - his nurturing spirit and compassion for all living things (especially plants and animals), his generosity & peace-loving nature, his love for Broadway musicals, Celine Dion and his undying devotion to his partner Andrew and all of his family members. Mark will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

James M. Petro III ‘12 passed away on April 2, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Patti (Gleason) Petro; his sister, Grace Petro ‘11, and her fiancée, Nathan Kimball; his best friend and love of his life, Maria Landi; his paternal grandparents, Jim and Jackie Petro; his dog Theo; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. James was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Virginia Gleason. A native of Manchester, NH, James attended St. Monica’s Grade School and Marian High School in Mishawaka, IN. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Operations Management from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. In 2017, James met the love of his life and best friend, Maria Landi, while working at the headquarters of Abercrombie and Fitch. Later they settled in Chicago, IL where he worked as a supply chain manager at Catch Co. James will be remembered for a timely sense of humor, overwhelming positivity, loyalty towards his family and friends, love of traveling, cooking, sports, and his dog Theo. Most of all, James will be remembered for his fighting spirit. Born nine weeks premature, he fought hard to enter this world, and he fought just as hard until the end.

Pat (Patrick) M. Adamo passed away on February 28, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Ethel (Molnar) J. Adamo; a brother, Johnny; and a sister, Carmella. Left to cherish the memory of Pat is his loving wife of 45 years, Judy (Vanderheyden) Adamo; children, Daniel ‘03 (Catie) Adamo, Adam ‘06 Adamo, and Christopher (Erin) Adamo; granddaughters, Eveline E. & Natalie R. Adamo; and siblings, Mary, Tony, Terry, Anne (Steve) Koszyk, Louie, Connie, and Janine (Anthony) Below. Pat traveled with "Up with People" International Singing Group, he was guest speaker for the American Cancer Society "Man to Man" and Cancer survivors’ day at Coveleski Baseball Stadium. He facilitated Stock Market Game for 8th grade students at Grissom Middle School, and coached for the Osceola Little League and MSA Recreational Soccer League. Pat enjoyed the outside, working in the yard, and gardening. Above all, he loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Irene L. Bentkowski passed away on September 23, 2023. She is survived by two sons, Steven (Jane ‘77) Bentkowski and Kenneth Bentkowski; three grandchildren, Steven ‘03 (Shannon) Bentkowski, Jr., Patrick ‘05 (Jessica Watreas) Bentkowski and Kaylee Lawson; and six great grandchildren, Steven Bentkowski III "Trey," Sloane Bentkowski, Sutton Bentkowski, Jaxon Harrison, Liam, and Holly Stratton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Margaret (Gronke) Chrapliwy, her husband, Chester C. Bentkowski, and her sister Josephine (Curtis) Thews. A native of South Bend, Irene worked at The Associates and retired as Administrative Assistant for The Torrington Company. She was a member of St. Mary Polish National Catholic Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the parish choir, held various offices, and served on the parish Board of Directors. Irene was a member of the Central Polish-American Organization and was Chairman of the Copernicus Scholarship for over 25 years; served in various offices of ZB Falcon Nest 80 and District VI; was past president and 1980 Woman of the Year of the American Business Women's Association; was on the committee of the first South Bend Ethnic Festival; and served on the Board of Directors for the Notre Dame Credit Union and the Sylvester and Tessie Kaminski Foundation. She was honored in 2008 by the National Fraternal Congress of America with a visit to the US Capitol in Washington, DC for her volunteer efforts.

Ted Buday passed away on August 18, 2023. Ted is survived by his daughter; Marian Krizman '89 of South Bend and his grandsons; Dominic ‘17 and Luke ‘20 Krizman. Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eva Buday; his parents, Ferenc and Sarolta Buday; and his siblings, Irma, Margit, and Ferenc. Born in Hungary, Ted came to the United States at the age of 16 after fleeing Soviet occupation. Through his resiliency and strong work ethic, Ted worked his way up through the restaurant industry and became a talented chef at various restaurants and country clubs for over 40 years. He was a faithful Christian, attending St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Ted was well known in his neighborhood as an avid walker and bicyclist, in all weather conditions.

Mary Dale Cebulski passed away on January 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore Cebulski; her son, Gregory Dale (Melody Shaw) Cebulski; grandsons Ryan Cebulski and Cameron Cebulski; and siblings Vincent (Betty) Weddle, Karen (Joseph "Butch") Wroblewski, and James Weddle. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Mary Ellen (Bruce) Jensen, Joany (Jim) Zielinski,and Catherine (Michael) Janowiak; grandchildren Keely (Josh) McClain, Emily (Clarke) Stoltzfus, Ted Cebulski, Katie ‘00 (Joel ‘00) Dosmann, Janelle ‘06 (Darren) Fulford, Alexander ‘12 Zielinski, Calvin ‘13 Zielinski, Gregory ‘11 (Abigail ‘11) Janowiak, and Adam ‘13 Janowiak; 12 great-grandchildren, including Drew ‘26 Dosmann; brother, Michael (Carolyn) Weddle, sister-in-law Mary "Cooke" Weddle, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom remember her with love and affection. Mary worked for Watcon, Inc. for 32 years. Upon her retirement in 1999, her daughter, Mary Ellen, took over her position at Watcon, while Mary took on the role of Greatest Grandma Ever. She attended all the grandchildren's sporting and school events, went on cruises and trips with them, and cared for them while their parents traveled. Mary became an avid bicyclist, and went on a bike tour of Holland. She was a member of Civitan and the Power Source Prayer Group of St. Matthew's Parish, and volunteered her time by assisting at Communion Services at Southfield Village and St. Matthew's funeral luncheons. She was generous and kind, loved to debate and laugh, and had a sharp wit and sense of humor that will be missed! Her greatest legacy is her faith, which she modeled and instilled in others. She was a daily communicant and devoted to the Rosary. Mary was member of St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend, for over 35 years. 

Gloria Lee Nottingham Chelminiak passed away on September 4, 2023 following a brief illness. She is survived by her dearest husband Jack Quimby; her daughter Lee Chelminiak, her son Bill Chelminiak, their spouses Doug Herberich and Maureen Delahanty respectively; her stepdaughter Lynne Zeiger; and the couple’s nine grandchildren, including Carly ‘01 Herzog, Kathleen ‘09 Livingston, and Mary ‘12 Chelminiak; and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Jack Nottingham and her sister Robin Nottingham. A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Gloria graduated from Central High School in Kalamazoo and moved to South Bend to study nursing at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN in 1952. In December of that year, she married John Henry Chelminiak, and they moved to Indianapolis, where Gloria worked as a nurse in the Industrial Clinic and John taught at P.S. 45. In 1954, they moved to Mishawaka, Indiana, where John began a career teaching biology and coaching at Mishawaka High School. John died in 1981 of pancreatic cancer at age 54. Gloria’s nursing career spanned some 43 years and ranged from part time nursing in OB/GYN at Memorial Hospital to caring for students at Saint Mary’s College Health Services beginning in the 1970s. She was named Director of Student Health Services in 1985. She returned to school and received her B.S in Health Arts from Saint Francis College in 1987. Gloria retired from Saint Mary’s in 1995, and continued to work part time as a school nurse at Stanley Clark School. In June 1987, Gloria married Jack Quimby, and they began a 36-year love story rich with family, friends and travel between their beloved Anna Maria Island in Florida and South Bend. Gloria was an avid reader, and she followed national politics diligently. She loved music, Broadway musicals and going to the movies. Her lovely water color paintings of the beach and rustic barns in Vermont are treasured by her grandchildren.

John N. Christianson passed away on August 19, 2023. John is survived by his loving wife, Jan Christianson; children, Amy ‘83 (Brian) Jacoby, Jean ‘84 (Paul) Richards, Jack ‘86 (Tammy) Christianson, Patrick ‘88 (Jennifer) Christianson, and Steve ‘91 (Julie) Christianson; grandchildren, Anna Jacoby, Sarah Jacoby, Shannon Richards, Connor Richards, Nick Harder, Megan ‘19 Christianson, William ‘21 Christianson, Matthew ‘24 Christianson, Max ‘22 Christianson, Lily Christianson, Charlie Christianson, Brenner Christianson, and Rylan Christianson; siblings, Louise Christianson, Sister Roberta Christianson PHJC, and Sister Jean Christianson PHJC, as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise (Testolin) Christianson, and his brother, Robert Christianson. John proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves and attended 2 years at St. Joseph’s College Rensselaer before he felt the calling to the family business, which he successfully led for 50 years. John was a member of many boards in the Mishawaka community over the years and one very dear to his heart was The Women’s Care Center. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Mishawaka and the Knights of Columbus. John loved God, his family, his country and the White Sox. He enjoyed the company of countless friends and especially loved his golf buddies, daily Mass friends, and the Bettors Club. The biggest joy of his life was his family. He couldn’t have been prouder of his children and grandchildren.

William Joseph Corbett III passed away on March 23, 2024. Bill is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Mary Corbett, Catherine (Daniel) Freund, Susan (John) Brennan, and William IV (Evonne ‘77) Corbett; grandchildren, Patrick and Julia Laing, Lillian, Emma, and Catherine Freund, Margaret, Mary, Catherine and Alice Brennan, and Marielle ‘17 Corbett; his siblings, Catherine Brady, Susan ( Timothy) Doyle, and Thomas (Marylea) Corbett. Preceding Bill in death were his brother, John; and sister, Mary. A native of Chicago, Bill grew up in Glencoe, Illinois, the eldest of six. After graduation from Loyola Academy in 1948, he attended the University of Notre Dame, graduated, and was commissioned in the USN in 1952. He flew jets off carriers, retiring as a Commander after 22 years of service and being stationed on both coasts. The sedentary life was halted when, while working for the St. Joe Bank, Bill was asked to fly for the bank. This led to flying for the administration and athletic departments for the University of Notre Dame. His enthusiasm for transportation wasn’t limited to planes. A love for model railroads was handed down from his father. He built a replica of the Raton Pass over the four car garage that he had constructed at his home in South Bend. There was never a project too small or large that couldn’t be tackled, be it restoration or new construction. Bill also made sure that there was time for Notre Dame football (home and away), basketball, and soccer games. Bill volunteered in the pharmacy of St. Joseph Regional Hospital for 20 years. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Donald A. DeCocker passed away on December 20, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Cecilia Janet Arata; his children, Dennis (Denise) DeCocker, Teresa (Bernardo) Contreras, Mike (Pamela) DeCocker, Andrew ‘83 (Laura) DeCocker, Veronica ‘87 (James) Huchison, Aaron (Jamie) DeCocker, Timothy ‘93 (Bayliss) DeCocker and Stephanie ‘96 Schmeltz; 24 grandchildren (including Felipe ‘99 Contreras), 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin DeCocker. A native of Mishawaka, Don retired from Dodge Reliance after 43 years of service. He had a quick wit, loved telling jokes and stories, and he looked forward to the daily newspaper "funnies". By far, his greatest joy was his family. A quiet hero, he led by example and was always a good and faithful servant to his community and church.

Khristina Marie Ford passed away on January 5, 2024, of cancer, at the age of 40. She is survived by her mother, Toni Ford, and beloved brothers Ross Shanan Ford and Ryan ‘00 Shea (Laura Grashorn) Ford; four nieces and nephews; her beloved grandmother, Frances Bailey; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Khristi was preceded in death by her sister, Trina Marie Ford, father, Ricky Dale Ford, uncle Jerry Ford, and cousin, Angel Szabo. A native of South Bend, Khristi's formative years were spent at Our Lady of Hungry School, Marian High School, and Riley High School. Khristi was an avid sports enthusiast, often found on the softball diamond, volleyball court, or the basketball court, where she played with vigor and passion. She enjoyed nature walks, loved animals, and was fascinated by music and cosmetology. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she was a regular attendee at Saint Casmir Catholic Church, where she found solace and fellowship. Those who knew her were touched by her soul's melody, a tune that resonated with the harmonies of kindness and gentleness.

Elvera “Elva” Bagnara Gable passed away on January 20, 2024. She is survived by: son Kurt ‘83 (Sonya) Carlson, stepdaughter Julie (Michael) Englert, stepdaughter-in-law Patricia Gable; nine grandchildren;16 great grandchildren; and a niece, Pam (Steve) Zielinski. Elva was preceded in death by her second husband, Robert (Bob) Gable, her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Hazel Bagnara, and stepson Steven Gable, M.D. A native of Mishawaka, Elva graduated from Mishawaka High School and had a 27-year career with Indiana Bell, retiring in 1991 as an Assistant Manager for AT&T. In retirement, Elva was very involved in her community. She was an active member of SBC (formerly Indiana Bell) Telecom Pioneers and a member of The Christ Child Society. Her greatest commitment was to St. Jude Catholic Church where she devoutly served the parish in numerous ways. She was a sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the St. Jude’s Altar and Rosary Solidarity. Elva was generous with her love and very proud of her extended family. She was an avid collector and loved sharing this passion with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She gifted them hand-picked themed ornaments every Christmas which will forever serve as a memory of her during such a special time of year.

Jacqueline Gruber passed away on September 15, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Gruber; a daughter, Jill ‘85 (Nick) McHone; four sons, James (Diane) Gruber, Joseph (Kate) Gruber, Jay (Theresa) Gruber, and Jeff (Jeannie) Gruber; 17 grandchildren; a brother, Fred Snyder and two sisters-in-law, Cathy Gruber and Sharlene Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Dolores (Bourdon) Snyder, a sister, Sharon Vanderheyden, and a brother, Jim Snyder. A native of South Bend, Jackie graduated from Central High School in 1960. She was a successful realtor (20 years), an artist (Jackie's Creations), an entrepreneur (Longaberger Baskets), and a community volunteer (YMCA, St. Mary’s the Assumption, St. Vincent's DePaul's, St. Adalbert's Homeless Shelter). Most important to Jackie was her family. She logged thousands of miles transporting her kids to events and spent countless hours on bleachers. Her grandchildren were just as important, starting a new chapter of travel miles and bleacher time. Along with motherhood, Jackie enjoyed a wide-reaching circle of friends. She cherished going to her craft club, where her closest friends of over 50 years would gather regularly. She was a generous woman in word and deed. She and Jim loved to laugh and passed along the ability to find humor and hope even in the most challenging times.

Evelyn Marie Hacker passed away on November 15, 2023. She is survived by her three loving daughters: Carolyn (Tom) Farrow, Angela ‘81 (Mark) Hoerstman, and Brenda ‘88 Slater (Mark); grandchildren: David, Brian, Kristen, Cindy, Christie, Curtis, Neil ‘07, Layne ‘09, Garrett ‘13, Leslie ‘16; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hacker, her fourth daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Ken Dombrowski, and her nine brothers: Everett (Dorothy), Russell (Esther), Wilbur (Violet), Carl (Clara), Ransom (Beatrice) (Ruth), Clarence (Arlene), Walter (Margaret), Robert (Claudice), and Floyd (Wilma). A native of Granger, Evelyn was a graduate of Washington-Clay High School, a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, and spent most of her life in South Bend. She and Bernard co-owned Michiana Millwork until their retirement in 1994. She was room mother and Blue Bird Leader at her children’s school, and held the position of treasurer for the Mother’s Club at Marian High School. Her love for her family was boundless, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments. Evelyn was a shining beacon of strength, resilience, and love.

Marcia K. Hauser passed away on August 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by one brother, Chuck Hauser. Marcia is survived by one daughter: Amy (Chris) Fewell; one son: Ethan H. Jones; four grandchildren: Claire ‘17 E. Fewell, Luke ‘19 D. Fewell, Zachary ‘23 H. Fewell, and Henry A. Jones; and four sisters: Cynthia Hauser, Elizabeth Clendenen, Cassandra Lamb, and Mary Hauser. A native of South Bend, Marcia graduated from New Carlisle High School and then returned to academics when her two children were grown. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University South Bend and served for four years with the Peace Corps, teaching English as a second language. She was stationed in Slovakia and traveled all through Europe and made friends everywhere she went. When she returned home, she continued to teach, working at IUSB teaching ESL until the month she passed away.  Marcia was very active and enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, and biking. She accomplished the Hilly Hundred bicycle tour several times in Bloomington. Her groups of friends were plenty, including the “Lacrosse Grandmas” and her Words with Friends ladies. Her greatest love was her four grandchildren and she never failed to boast and brag about them every chance she got. She was their biggest supporter and never missed a sporting event, Grandparents Day, recital or graduation.

William Franklin Henry, Jr died on April 24, 2023, ending his battle with dementia. Along with his parents, William F. and Anna Mae (Bass) Henry, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John Ronald Henry. He is survived by his sister, Anne Nickerson; his wife of 52 years, Patricia Rose (Klingenberg); daughters, Mary Rebecca Sachs and Anne Katherine Malinowski; sons-in-law, Lee Sachs and Michael Malinowski; 5 grandchildren, Benjamin Henry Malinowski ‘21, Hannah Noelle Sachs, Daniel Edmund Malinowski ‘24, Lillian Rose Malinowski ‘26 and Abigail Elizabeth Sachs; and many nephew & nieces as well as great nephews & great nieces. A native of Cincinnati, Bill attended the University of Cincinnati where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Bill did not finish his degree in engineering, instead he choosing to go into calculator and copier sales, which took him and his family to homes in Cincinnati, Bismarck, ND and finally in South Bend, IN. Bill left sales in the early 90’s and became a rural postal carrier in Osceola, IN, the job which he retired from in 2011. Bill was a wonderful father and grandfather. One game which held a special place in Bill’s heart was baseball. He umpired both softball and baseball in Cincinnati and Bismarck and coached and umpired softball in South Bend. With Pat, Bill loved to garden, especially growing roses, and in retirement he became a Master Gardener through the Purdue Extension.

Timothy V. Henthorn passed away on February 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice (Sammet) Henthorn, his siblings, Patrick, Michael, and Kathleen, and by his beloved wife, Nancy (Hacker). Timothy is survived by his three sons, Patrick ‘92 (Jennifer), David ‘95 (Kimberly), and Kevin (Jill); along with his six grandchildren: Sierra ‘23 and Landon, Catherine and Charlotte, and James and Sarah. A native of South Bend, Timothy grew up just a block from his beloved University of Notre Dame, from which he earned a degree in chemical engineering in 1961. His passion for engineering lit the way for all his children, along with his daughter-in-law, and multiple grandchildren, who have pursued engineering degrees of their own. Following graduation, he served in the US Army and was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. There he conducted biomedical research on ways to rapidly treat battlefield wounds, ultimately resulting in a commendation from the US Army. After returning from service, he rejoined Watcon, Inc. (South Bend, IN) where he had worked as an intern during college. In total, he would spend over fifty years with the company, ultimately rising to the title of Vice President of Engineering. He and Nancy enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing – frequently making canoeing trips throughout Canada. They also shared a love of the water and owned several boats on Lake Michigan, sailing out of New Buffalo. A dedicated Boy Scout leader, Timothy earned the rank of Eagle Scout and inspired his three sons to do the same. He shared this dedication with his wife and they both won numerous awards from the LaSalle Council of the Boy Scouts of America in recognition of their volunteer work. Timothy was also a long time parishioner of St. Monica's Church, Mishawaka, IN where he served on the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister.

Steve Hinora Sr. passed away on August 18, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; a daughter, Mary Ann Hinora ‘88; a son Steve (Judy) Hinora Jr.; 4 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Anna (Mayer) Hinora, two brothers. and a sister. Born in Hungary, Steve was employed by Schafer Gear Works and was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and its Prayer Group. He loved fishing and feeding the birds, but most of all he loved his family.

James P. Holt passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol J. Miller; daughters, Julie ‘80 (Kevin) Dolan, Jennifer ‘81 (Bob) Driscoll, Jacqueline ‘83 (George) Paletta, Jeanne ‘86 (Darrell) Dolan and Jodi ‘88 (Jeff) Kleiber; grandchildren, Kevin Jr, Claire and Patrick Dolan, Katie, Michael and Matthew Driscoll, Sarah (Sal) Revetta, Savannah (Austin) McConnell, George and Emma Paletta, Jim, Megan, Daniel and Erin Dolan, Julia and Jack Kleiber; two great grandchildren, Ava and Sal Revetta; his brother, Dayton (Linda) Holt; and his aunt, Zona Ballweg. A native of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim grew up in Detroit, MI, attending Visitation High School. Jim was a sales manager at DoAll South Bend (DGI Supply) for 40 years until his retirement. Jim was a strong supporter of St. Monica Church and Mishawaka Catholic School, serving on the Finance committee and the Parish Council, and helping to start the garden club. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1878. Jim had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother, which carried over into his love of Notre Dame and the Golden Dome. Jim loved and cherished his wife Carol, and his five girls were the joy of his life.

John W. Horth, Jr. passed away on August 31, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Rosalie Glon, and a grandson, Joshua Glod. Surviving are a daughter, Therese ‘78 (John) Hedges; two sons, Michael ‘80 (Renee) Horth and Donald ‘81 (Penny) Horth; 5 grandchildren: Zachary Horth, Hillary (Mario) Navarette, Marie (Kris) Johnson, Nicole Butler and Jason (Sarah) Basker; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Kathleen Horvath. John was employed by Horth Grocery, H & H Aerospace and Zahoran Funeral Home. He was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, served on the board of Sacred Heart Cemetery, was a member of the former St. Anthony Society.  John was a train enthusiast and loved to play euchre.  Every family get-together euchre was involved – we couldn’t get the table cleaned fast enough for the games to begin. Dad’s other love besides Rosalie was his 1964 Studebaker Cruiser.  He loved to drive it around town, especially when the drivers club had meets in South Bend.  He loved to fly-fish for bluegill at Indian Lake, his smile could light up a room.

John Bernard Huemmer passed away on October 8, 2023. Surviving John is his wife, Barbara Crighton; daughter, Jennifer ‘94 (Kevin) Treber; son, John ‘91 (Cynthia) Huemmer; stepchildren, Rachel Crighton and Ian (Lyn) Crighton; grandchildren, Mikayla, Steven & Kaitlin Treber, Johnny & Matthew Huemmer, Lilian & Charlotte Crighton and Madeleine & Robert Crighton; and a brother, Frank. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Juliet June (Vendl) Huemmer; sisters, Mary Ann and Eleanor; and brothers, Edward and Tom. A native of Mishawaka, John was a Mishawaka and National Yo-Yo Champion in his youth. He served in the Army where he taught Korean children the English language. He returned to graduate from Indiana University.  He worked as a Human Resource Director at RACO until his retirement.   After his retirement, he became a champion bocce ball player in Florida where he loved to spend time. He was an avid supporter of Mishawaka Baseball, ND Football, and IU Basketball. He loved supporting and watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in extracurricular activities.

Edward M. Jordanich passed away on October 12, 2023. Edward M. is survived by his son, Edward J. ‘85 Jordanich (Julia), and his daughter, Ann ‘86 M. Jordanich; his granddaughters Lauren, Mia and Natalie Jordanich; and cousins: Katherine (Fred, deceased) Kagel, Hubert (Judy) Kuzmich, Nancy (Gus) Hillenbrand, and Monsignor John Kuzmich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma, and by his sister and best friend, Anne M. Jordanich. Ed lived in South Bend his entire life, graduating from Our Lady of Hungary School, Riley High School and the University of Notre Dame. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He worked his entire career at Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell and retired in 1991. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Hungary Church.

Francis ‘Frank’ R. Klocke Jr passed away on December 27, 2023. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marsha (Quinn) and his brother, Charles “Chuck” Klocke. He is survived by two daughters; Heather ‘98 (John) Bridge and Angela ‘01 Klocke, along with two granddaughters, Ashley and Emily. Also surviving are his siblings Marybeth Leffelman and Christopher (Gigi) Klocke. A native of Sterling, IL, Frank graduated in 1968 from Newman Central Catholic High School, where he excelled in track and was named captain of the varsity cross country team. Frank attended Western Illinois University to study pre-veterinary science and graduated with B.S. in 1972. He later moved to Indiana and sold agriculture equipment for Allis-Chalmers and joined the United States Junior Chamber also know as “Jaycees”. Frank’s most notable professional achievement was the founding and ownership of Central Builders. For over 14 years he specialized in custom kitchens, bathroom remodeling and home additions. Frank was also a long-standing member of the BNI South Bend Chapter and had many friends in this network. His greatest role was as a loyal and committed father to Heather and Angie. Frank valued faith and integrity, and demonstrated determination and perseverance. He was intelligent and proactive in finding a solution to any problem. Frank was a teacher and mentor and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills. Those who knew Frank understood him and knew that he had a good heart. May God show him mercy and may his soul rest in eternal peace.

Emily J. Kopec passed away on April 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Kopec Sr., and a sister, Anna Holobyn. She is survived by daughters, Jane ‘77 (Steven) Bentkowski and Emilia ‘84 (Jim) Shaffer; sons Michael ‘76 (Chris) Kopec, John ‘80 Kopec, and Arthur ‘83 (Deanie) Kopec Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Andrew (Lydia) Kopec, Matthew (Joe Becherer) Kopec, Steven ‘03 (Shannon) Bentkowski, Patrick ‘05 (Jessica Watreas) Bentkowski, Madison Kopec, Emma Kopec, Courtney (Josh) Lovold, Kaley Shaffer, Aubrey (Mike) Danielson, and Alyssa (Josh) Self; 10 great-grandchildren, Hannah Kopec, Zoey Kopec, Steven Bentkowski III, Sloane Bentkowski, Sutton Bentkowski, Genevieve Lovold, Marin Danielson, Wynn Danielson, Hudson Self, and Harrison Self; and a sister, Rosemarie Bilancio; along with loving nieces and nephews. A native of South Bend, Emily worked for more than 40 years with the sisters of the St. Francis Convent, while also raising her five children. A strong woman of faith, she was a loyal and dedicated member of St. Matthew Cathedral, attending mass weekly, volunteering at the grade school and continuously praying for others. She remained dear friends with her Our Lady of Hungary schoolmates and would regularly meet with them for breakfast. Emily was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Whether she was celebrating a holiday, making a meal to enjoy, attending an event for her grandchildren, or talking on the telephone to her sister, Emily loved her family.

Lance D. Malling passed away on December 5, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Theresa (Fritz) Malling, and his daughter, Brigitte Malling. Left to cherish the memory of Lance is his son, Erik (Karen) Malling; his grandchildren, Riley ‘06 & Kasha ‘08 Malling; his brother, Karl Malling; and his aunt, Bernie Hardig. Lance was a wonderful father, an entrepreneur, party animal, hell raiser, golfer, mentor and a very generous man. A native of South Bend, he started Blue-Prince in 1975 and was one of the original owners of Hacienda. Children were dear to his heart, as well as his corvettes. He was loved by many and will be missed and remembered by all.

Teresa Maria Marino passed away on October 14, 2023. She is survived by her beloved husband, Antonio, along with their children, John ‘83 (Magdalena) Marino and Nick ‘89 (Lisa) Marino; and grandchildren, Daniel and Nathan Marino, and Anna ‘20, John ‘21, Ben ‘24, Julia ‘27, and Joseph Marino; and Teresa’s one sister, Lidia Romanelli. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Nicola and Nicoletta Santeusanio, and a daughter, Linda ‘82 Marino. Born in Fossacesia, Italy, Teresa immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1961, where she married Antonio Marino. They settled in South Bend, and for many years Teresa worked for Koszegi Industries, Martin’s Supermarkets, and Macri’s Bakery before her retirement. She was a member of St Matthew Cathedral in South Bend.  Teresa had a remarkable gift for welcoming everyone into her home and at her table.  No one left Nonna’s hungry for either food or love because she filled everyone with both.

Paul J. Marschall passed away on July 22, 2023. He is survived by his three children, Peter John (Brenda) Marschall, Patrick ‘85 Jay (Christine) Marschall, and Melissa ‘86 Jane Marschall (Michael Orchard); nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two nieces, and by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carol; sister, Joan; and by his brother-in-law, David Besser. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Paul graduated from Hastings High School in 1952 and served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. In 1961 he graduated from the University of Minnesota and began a 30 year career as a CPA at McGladrey’s. Starting in Davenport, Iowa, he later moved to Iowa City, and then in 1970 to South Bend, Indiana, where he stayed and raised his family. Paul was talented, generous and outgoing, and was strongly committed to his family, friends, community, and faith. He was involved in many organizations, including the South Bend Rotary Club, the Memorial Health Foundation, and the Soren Society. He was an avid golfer and card player, and later in life, enjoyed baking and cooking. He loved travel (and food!), and spending time with family and friends. He was proud of his stint as a catcher for the Miesville Mudhens and his deep connections to the Miesville community. The bonds with his life-long friends were strong and brought him immeasurable joy and comfort, especially in the autumn years of his life.

Mary B. Martin passed away on January 14, 2024. Surviving are children, Michele ‘69 (Scott) Charlton, Gail ‘71 Kedik, Jay ‘74 (Annie) Martin; grandchildren, Joshua Charlton, Chris (Cayla) Kedik, Dan (Elexis) Kedik, Jen (Dre) Lewis, Tim (April) Powell, and David (Amanda) Martin; great-grandchildren, Quinn and Lucy Charlton, Payton, Emma, & Clark Kedik, Owen Kedik, Ayana Wilson, Makiyah Lewis, and Daniel and  John Martin; great great grandchild, Nova Wilson; sister, Johanna (John) Pairitz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Martin. A native of South Bend, Mary was a nurse for many years. She enjoyed camping and traveling with Dan, visiting most of the United States and going to Australia and New Zealand. She also liked to garden, knit, and read. She was a parishioner at Queen of Peace Church for over 50 years and a member of the Christ Child Society. She volunteered at Busy Hands and knitted scarves for Christmas for Tots.

Janice Jean Meixel passed away on July 6, 2023. She is survived and remembered by her loving husband of 62 years, Roy; her three children, Jeffery ‘81 A Meixel, Jill ‘82 M Gunn (Rick), and Jamie ‘89 L Gregory (Tom); nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Janice was a lifelong resident of the Mishawaka area and graduated from Mishawaka High School. She attended Vogue Beauty College where she received a license in cosmetology. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish of Mishawaka and served many years in various capacities at the school where all three of her children attended. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother. It was important for her that her children receive a Catholic education. Janice was a loyal Notre Dame fan, particularly fond of football and women’s basketball, rarely missing a game. She was also an avid golfer, proud to have attained a hole in-one in her golf career. Janice was an excellent cook and was well-known for her homemade noodles and the Jesus’ birthday cakes that she made with her grandchildren every Christmas. She was also known for her decorating ability and wallpaper-hanging skills, assisting many friends and family members with her talent throughout the years.

Christopher Louis Miller passed away on February 6, 2024. Chris is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lisa Miller; his father, Robert Miller; his sons, Michael (Kristen) Miller and Jason ‘07 (Caitlin) Miller; grandchildren, Lucille and Brooks; and siblings, Connie Kabzinski and Terry (Elaine) Miller. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo and nephew, Tyler Kabzinski. A native of South Bend, even at a young age, Chris' enthusiasm and boisterousness was enough to cause the nuns at the Catholic school he attended to recommend he be sent to the local public school for more help. This did not work. Chris was an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying fishing, pheasant hunting, and bird-watching. He was also a very accomplished Enduro dirt bike racer, enjoying the competition for many years and generally leaving his friends far, far behind. Chris took over the family business, Bob Miller’s Appliance, continuing his parent’s legacy of hard work and exceptional customer service. He was joined with Lisa, and the two of them expanded and grew the business over many years - far beyond what Bob and Betty Jo could have ever dreamed of while building a business with the Whirlpool Corporation in their garage in the 60’s.

Joseph A. Nicolini passed away on January 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Van Hove as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Surviving is his wife of 72 years, Phyllis; children, Gregory ‘70 (Pamela) Nicolini, Julie ‘72 Grant, Lisa ‘79 (Patrick) McCann, and Jeffery ‘83 Nicolini; nine grandchildren, including Rebecca ‘09 (Blake ‘07) Powell; 15 great grandchildren and a sister, Doris Oliva as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. A native of Mishawaka, Joseph worked at Precision Piece Parts from 1952 until 2020. He was a lifelong member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, having served as an Usher for over 50 years, and was also a member of BK Club and DeAmicis.

Robert O’Brien passed away on December 27, 2023. Bob did the usual stuff. He went to school and graduated from St John Fisher University in Rochester, NY with a BBA and an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology. He served in the National Guard. He married BJ Hood. They had children, Jennifer, Betsy, John, Amy ‘84, and Molly ‘89 (Jeff ‘89). They had grandchildren, Josh, Daniel, Jackie, Reid, Erin, Shannon ‘18 and Brian ‘23. They had great-grandchildren Cooper, Rex, Olive, Floralie and Juniper. He went to work at Burroughs Corporation, Valley American Bank and IOI Payroll. He volunteered and he ran 5 and 10K races. There's more of course, but it's what we all do, mow the grass, shovel the snow, hold babies, kiss your wife, walk the dog. Bob would want us to remember that he was kind, helpful, and generous. You would want him as your neighbor, as your friend, as your employee, your relative. We were graced to have him with us for all of those eighty-eight years. Thank you Bob.

Mary Jo Martha (Stroobandt) O'Neil passed away on October 7, 2023. She is survived by her beloved husband, Charlie; daughter Erin (John) Ryal and their children Dan (Britt), Kelly, Molly (Zach) Matthews, Joe, Mary Rose, Megan and Grace; daughter Kelly (Chuck ‘74) Trippel and their children Erin Rose ‘99, Tommy and Alex; daughter Kathy (Dan) Siddall and their children Colleen (Jake), Patrick (Chelsea) and Kevin; son Terry (Joni) O'Neil and their children Dylan and Jennifer; daughter Mary ‘80 Swift and her children Troy (Claire), Emily (Chris) Swift-Rider and Hannah; daughter Peggy ‘81 O'Neil and her son Ryan ‘14; daughter Patty ‘85 (Brian) Collins and their children Frances (Matt) Wheeler, Augie, Charlie, Edie, Lulu, Maggie, Betsy, Cathleen and Jane; four great grandchildren; brother Jack (Janet) Stroobandt, sister Patricia Kent, and many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their Auntie Jo. A native of Mishawaka, Mary Jo graduated from Mishawaka High School and took a job at O'Neil Ford, where her boss introduced her to a very handsome GI, her future husband. Mary Jo loved her parish, Queen of Peace. There, she founded Mary's Blue Brigade, a small group of women dedicated to our Blessed Mother and eating delicious lunches (in that order). As official LRC (Left Right Center) bank president, broke grandkids could always count on her for their $3 pay-to-play donation. We will miss her eye for beauty, legendary fried chicken, green thumb, kooky gifts, and most of all, her zest for life.

Frances Ruhe passed away on November 9, 2023. Fran is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, John "Jack" Ruhe; five children: Michael (Debbie) Ruhe, Christopher Ruhe and his preceded wife Yolanda, Laura (Michael) Smydra, Lisa (Gioacchino) Minelli, and Judy (Gary) Bronner; ten grandchildren (including Michael Minelli ‘03) and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nettie Fino. Fran was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Castagna. A native of Gary, Indiana, Fran earned a Master's in Education and embarked on a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for knowledge was infectious, and she spent many years inspiring young minds and shaping the future of countless students. She was known for her deep faith, sharp wit, generous spirit, and the unwavering love she had for her family and travel. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, former students, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Barbara Joan (Banner) Scalise died peacefully June 7, 2023. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, David Scalise; three daughters and sons-in-law, Terri (Rich) Field, Gina (Don) Bazany, Angie (Sean) Kearns; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Caleb) Acosta, Kaylee (Brett) Vander Baan, J.D. (Allie) Field, Garrett (fiance’ Kaleigh Knutson) Bazany, Emma ‘18 Kearns, Elizabeth “Libby” Kearns, Mary Margaret “Maggie” ‘22 Kearns; four great grandchildren Eliana Acosta, Blair Vander Baan, Noa Grace Vander Baan, Brady Field; and her sister-in-law, Cindi (Dennis) Lofstedt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Catharine Banner; step-brother, Lawrence Banner; uncle Harvey Bodmer; aunt Mert Bodmer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ann Scalise. A native of Chicago, Barbara met and married her husband, David Joseph Scalise June 14, 1962. David and Barbara spent the early years of their marriage living in the Detroit area where they started their family and built lifelong friendships with families from the Aquinas High School community.  David’s banking career brought them back to Gull Lake in the early 1980s where Barbara was an active member in St. Ann Catholic Church, Gull Lake, where they developed enduring friendships. Barbara also launched a successful career in residential real estate. Career opportunities for David in California brought a new set of adventures as they embraced the ocean, wineries, and all that their new West Coast communities had to offer. Early retirement allowed more opportunities for gardening, travel, and exploration, and eventually led to summertime living at Diamond Lake, Michigan in close-proximity to her daughters and their husbands and all seven grandchildren. Their home quickly became a place where Barbara watched grandchildren grow up together while swimming, skiing, and sharing her love for the water and family. Perhaps Barbara’s greatest happiness and pride resided in her grandchildren and the time she was able to spend at birthday parties, family celebrations, school events, graduations, and on the bleachers watching them flourish and grow, while forever leaving an imprint on their lives. Barbara will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Fred J. Schmiedeler passed away on October 27, 2023. Fred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann (Carey), and by his three children: Mary ‘84 (James) Long; Michael ‘90 (Wendy); and James ‘92 (Renée LaReau). He also is survived by his brother, Patrick Schmiedeler, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and 25 nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by infant son Matthew; parents Fred Sr. and Dorothy (Crowe) Schmiedeler; and siblings John Schmiedeler, Rosemary Reinig, Dorothy Flake, and Martha Schmiedeler. Born in Abilene, KS, Fred and his five siblings grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City. Upon graduation with a BSEE from Kansas State University in 1955, he went to work for the Bendix Missile Division in Mishawaka, later transferring to the Aircraft Brake and Strut Division in South Bend. While at Bendix, he earned an MBA from Michigan State University. Though the company changed hands several times, Fred spent his entire working career with that same company, retiring as Director of Engineering after 38 years of service. After retirement, Fred joined the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), where for the next 20 years he enjoyed serving as a volunteer mentor for small businesses and not-for-profit corporations. He also continued to play his beloved handball during his retirement and was a fixture on the handball courts at the YMCA for nearly 60 years, where he met many of his closest friends. Fred will be remembered as a principled gentleman who was dedicated to his faith, family, friends, and colleagues.

Leona Luciana Singleton passed away on September 26, 2023. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Singleton, Sr., and by a daughter, Terri Le Carse. She is survived by daughters, Tabetha (Craig) Colburn-McDonald, Jacqueline (Joseph) Harmon and Allison Ling; son, Aurthur “Jamie” James Singleton, Jr.; son-in-law, Robert Carse; grandchildren, Zac (Lynda) Singleton, Mathew (Kelly) Singleton, Amber (Andrew) Huddleston, Sara Carse, Elijah ‘18 (Autumn) Coburn-McDonald, Ethan Singleton, Elizabeth Harmon, and Savannah ‘22 Coburn-McDonald; and five great-grandchildren. A native of Ardoch, North Dakota, Leona moved to South Bend at the age of 18 and lived most of her life here. She was a payroll clerk at Brockway Glass for 22 years before retiring in 1997. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church near Lakeville, IN where she sang in the choir for 18 years.

John Arthur “Jack” Skevington Jr. passed away on October 24, 2023. Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathleen "Kay" Skevington; children Pete ‘87 Skevington, Amy ‘88 (Ray) Byers, and Stacey ‘91 (Brian) Bruen; grandchildren Sam, Shawn, Heather and Samantha Byers and A.J. and Nate Bruen; sister Jan (Dave) Liberman and sister-in-law Debbie Skevington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His brother, Dave Skevington preceded him in death. A native of Fort Wayne, Jack graduated from Fort Wayne Central Catholic High School and Indiana University, Bloomington. He was employed as a financial consultant for over 30 years with Merrill Lynch and UBS. Jack had a fondness for travel, especially to Mexico, Central America and Spain where he used his self-taught Spanish skills to immerse himself into different cultures. Jack also loved spending time teaching English as a second language to local groups of men, and he learned as much from those he taught as he could. He also had a heart for the orphaned children of these regions and generously supported them financially throughout the years. Most of all, Jack was a man of faith and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a longtime and faithful parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Joseph J. Mueller, 11, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Memorial Hospital. Joseph was preceded in death by his father Robert Mueller, and his bonus grandpa Pete Neilsen. He is survived by his mother, Carah Probst, his sister, Caiah Mueller, brothers, C.J. Smith ‘25, and Wesley Probst, his grandparents, Connie Peace, William Probst, and Joe (Renee) Mueller, his aunt Annah Probst, as well as many cousins, extended family, and friends. A native of Kalamazoo, MI, Joseph was a student at Saint Matthews Catholic school and had a deep love for God and Jesus. He loved football and played Center and Lineman for Rocket League on the Raiders team. When Joey wasn’t playing or watching football, he enjoyed playing Fortnite with his best friend Royce and watching movies with his family. He had a great sense of humor and was incredibly kindhearted. 

Joseph L. Sniadecki passed away on October 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Jean (Vandriessche) Sniadecki; his sister, Bernadine Strantz; brother, Irvin Sniadecki; and brother-in-law, Jerome Tobalski. Left to cherish their memory of Joe are his children, Patricia (Ron) Fimbel, David (Bonnie) Sniadecki; grandchildren, Shane ‘98 (Mindi) Fimbel, Shannon ‘99 (James) Abercrombie, Mike Sniadecki, Josh (Dhaisy) Sniadecki, Shea (Greg) Lee, Nicole Sniadecki, Sarah (Mike) Bowser; and 8 great-grandchildren, including Mitchell ‘26 Fimbel. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked for Studebaker and then AM General, where he retired. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 357 and VFW Post 284, as well as the St. Joseph Club, PNA, and the Grant Road Conservation Club. He loved sports - playing softball, bowling in a league with his wife, Grace, and even coaching grade school basketball for his son, David. Joe was an avid Notre Dame Fan and the Chicago White Sox. He was a devout catholic and was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He ushered there for over 50 years just recently stepping down at 90 years old. Above all, Joe loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles F. Sonneborn Jr. passed away on March 29, 2024. He is survived by his children Charles (Charlie) Sonneborn ‘79, Amy Sonneborn-Turnock ‘82 (Joseph Turnock, Jr. ‘82), Kristin Rose (Patrick Rose), and his stepson Dean Francis (Mindy); his grandchildren, Joseph Turnock, III ‘12 (Erin Kearney), Joshua Turnock ‘14 (Josie), Jack Rose, Nina Rose and Maura Francis as well as a great grandchild, Cavan Turnock. A native of Chicago, Chuck and his family moved to South Bend in 1941 where his father, his uncle Fritz Sonneborn, and their father, Roy Sonneborn, moved a Sporting goods business originally established in LaPorte, IN to downtown South Bend which was locally known as Sonneborn’s Sport Shop. Chuck grew up in this business, and from the age of 12, he performed odd jobs and formed a strong work ethic, as well as a lifelong love of sports. Chuck was a member of the 1954 class at John Adams High school, where he was a member of the football and track teams. After graduation, he attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Business degree in 1958. At Michigan, he met and married Shirley Ann Shelton, settled in South Bend, and together they raised three children. Shortly after graduating, he enrolled in the US Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged in October of 1964 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Chuck’s main career was working at and then owning Sonneborn’s Sport Shop in downtown South Bend. He met and helped many people during his career in sporting goods.  He was active within the community and was a member of the South Bend Chamber of Commerce. In later life, he met and married Ellen (Francis). Together they traveled and enjoyed retirement. His favorite pastimes were downhill skiing and golf. He skied until the age of 69 and passionately cheered on Michigan football.

Anthony “Tony” Stein passed away on October 9, 2023. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Anna; three children: Michael ‘91 Stein, Laura ‘94 (Dan) Barnes, and Patrick ‘97 (Beth) Stein; seven grandchildren: Andrew, Nathan, Christopher, Abigail, Jonah, Isabella, and Poppy; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rosemary Stein. A native of Queens, NY, Tony attended Brooklyn Prep High School in NY in 1963. He earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1967 and earned his master’s degree from the University of Rochester, NY in 1969. His love for learning was only surpassed by his devout Catholic faith, which was the cornerstone of his life. The family moved to South Bend, IN in 1984, where he was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral Parish for 39 years. He had a fascination with trains, and his love for classical music was well known. Tony was a man who had a deep and abiding love for the city of his birth, New York, which was evident in the stories he shared. Tony was a man of many virtues, who dedicated much of his time to the Right to Life cause and praying the rosary.

Matthew Paul Stow passed away on April 3, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Stow. Matt is survived by his wife, Rebecca Whitten-Stow ‘14 and their children Bailee, Luke, Ethan, Landon, Paislee, Gunner, Jensyn, Brexley and Noah; his mother, Sandy (Russ) Stow; his grandparents Marlen and Barbara Osborn and Ronald and Linda Frye; his siblings Christa Stow, Stephanie (Brandtley) Miller, Melissa (Ryan) Miller; his step-siblings Tara Davis, Kerry (Jeff) Pratt, and Bryan (Nichole) Davis; his brother-in-law Will Whitten ‘15 and sisters-in-law Casey (Meier) Krumlauff and Caylee Bennett; his stepmother Tina (Jim) Brown; and several nieces and nephews. A native of Elkhart, Matt attended Constantine High School and later worked with Forest River as a materials handler for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to spend time hunting and fishing, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers. He was an excellent shot, always enjoying a good day at the target range as a proud member of the NRA. When he wasn't hitting targets, he was under the hood of a car, fixing and tinkering away. Motorcycles were another passion of his. He loved the feeling of freedom that came with riding alongside his brother Will, the wind in his face and the open road ahead. When he wasn't out riding, you could find him watching classic westerns and cheering on his heroes like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. More than anything else, Matt was a dad through and through. He adored his kids and would do anything to make them smile. He had a devilish grin and mischievous streak, always up for a laugh and pulling pranks whenever he could. Matt was also incredibly caring, especially towards his siblings, and he was always there to lend a hand without expecting anything in return. Matt also supported our veterans, participating in numerous Wounded Warrior Challenges. He believed strongly in giving back and supporting those who had served their country. And he had a soft spot for animals, often taking in strays and giving them a loving home.

Joseph T. Tanzosh passed away on March 12, 2024. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Mark Tanzosh. He is survived by his wife Robin Good; three daughters, Lucy Tanzosh, Eden (AJ) Auriemma, and Jo-Rene (Andrew) Jones; one son, Robert (Natalie) Slack; six grandchildren; two sisters, Beth (Bill Santoro) Tanzos, and Jane (Lou) DeNardo; one brother, James (Marlette) Tanzosh; and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Allentown, PA who grew up in Garfield Heights, OH, Joe attended the University of Notre Dame and loved every moment. In his junior year of college, he became very ill and was later diagnosed with Crohn's disease, which he would battle bravely for the rest of his life. After graduation he moved to New Jersey and met Joann Oddo whom he would later marry, becoming the proud father of three girls and one boy. When the family moved to Arizona, Joe found his true calling as a teacher. Joe and Joann eventually separated, though remaining friends. Joe loved the beauty of algebra, calculus, and statistics, and sought to impart that to his students. He was voted Teacher of the Year at Desert Mountain High School, an honor that humbled him. He met Robin Good and they relocated to South Bend, where Joe taught at Marian High School until retiring in May 2023. He loved the combination of teaching with daily participation in his faith. His last year at Marian was filled with many health issues but he persevered. He never met a cloudy day that wasn't beautiful, always answered great when asked how he felt and looked forward to each minute of every single day. He was smart, kind, funny and quirky with a dry sense of humor and a devotion to life, his religion and prime numbers.

Jerry Jay Taylor passed away on November 18, 2023. Left to cherish Jerry's memory are his wife of 52 years, Marilyn; his sons, Jason Taylor and Jeff ‘93 (April) Taylor; grandchildren, Adelaide and Zachary Taylor; brother, Otto (Irene, deceased) Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Gregory and brother, Orra Taylor. A native of South Bend, Jerry liked taking his sons and neighbor kids fishing. During the summers, when he wasn't coaching his sons in baseball, he golfed on the St Jude Golf League and bowled during the winter. Somewhat a creator, he handmade wooden mirrors, lights, and shelves that he would sell at craft shows. He and Marilyn enjoyed attending Notre Dame basketball games, watching local softball games, and going to the casinos, where he could tell which slot machines were the best. Jerry also loved playing poker weekly with his friends.

James L. Whitesel passed away on July 3, 2023. He is survived by two sons, Troy (Susan) Whitesel of South Bend, Indiana, James (Kathy) Whitesel of Indianapolis, Indiana, two grandchildren Cole ‘16 (Abbey '16 Kaser) Whitesel and Jake ‘18 (Jessica) Whitesel, one great grandchild, Paisley Whitesel, and his fiancé Diane Hawks. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances (Reichanadter) Whitesel, and his wife Anna. Jim was a proud graduate of South Bend Central High in 1962. He worked for many years as journeyman machine repairmen and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Richard “Dick” Lee Willson passed away on December 27, 2023. Dick is survived by his children Kate ‘77 Willson Voelker (Mark) of Mishawaka, IN; Michael Willson (Marilyn) of St. Paul, MN; Fran ‘79 Willson Bedan (Rick) of New Albany, IN; Ellen Willson Hoover (Gary) of Charlotte, NC; sister Judy Willson Behrens; 12 grandchildren, including Margaret ‘07 Park, Mark ‘08 Voelker, Mary ‘11 Voelker, and Michael ‘14 Voelker; and six great-grandchildren. Dick was raised in Rockford, IL, where he attended Rockford West High School and played baseball and football. A 1958 graduate with a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Notre Dame, Dick also earned his M.B.A. from Notre Dame. A Certified Public Accountant, Dick worked for Clark Equipment Co. and then was a partner at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co.. Later, he founded his own accounting and valuation firm. In semi-retirement, Dick lived in Saudi Arabia and taught accounting at Jubail Industrial College, then returned to South Bend and taught at Southwestern Michigan College. A passionate fan of the Fighting Irish, Dick held long-term season tickets for multiple Notre Dame sports, including football, basketball, and ice hockey. Dick was an athlete and lively competitor who enjoyed tennis, golf, ice hockey (playing and coaching), skiing, fly fishing, and other activities learned through his many travels. Dick was a member and volunteer for many years with the Rotary Club of South Bend. In retirement, he learned to sculpt and construct and fly model airplanes and enjoyed doting on his pet dogs and cats. While his physical health waned in recent years, Dick continued to be an enthusiast of conversation, music, humor, and occasional political debate. He used his time of physical restraint to lovingly stay engaged in his family’s lives and milestones.

Mary Ann Wozniak passed away peacefully on August 30, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Frank Nagy, and son, Matthew Wozniak. She is survived by her sister, Susan Weinberg; husband, Thomas Wozniak; children, Beth ‘86 (Mike) Garatoni, Greg ‘89 (Jennifer) Wozniak and Tim ‘93 (Brooke) Wozniak; grandchildren, Lauren ‘12, Matthew ‘14 (Mary), Anna ‘17, Anthony ‘20, Mia ‘22, Sophia ‘25 Garatoni, Adam, Jake, Jack and Henry Wozniak, Luther (Niesha) Jacobs, Grant (Katie) Wozniak. A lifelong resident of Mishawaka, Mary Ann was an incredible wife and mother, and her true calling was being a full time "Nana" to her many grandchildren, and her grandchildren's friends. You could always find her cheering at every soccer game for her grandchildren, she always called and sang to you on your birthday, and she never said no to a new adventure, always happy to be making new memories with her family following up with, "We had such a good time, didn't we?". Mary Ann always left people better than she found them, a true testament to putting her strong faith into practice. If you mentioned you liked cookies, you could expect a delivery of 2 dozen a few days later. If you told her you were having a baby, you would be getting a hand knit blanket. If you got married, you received an ornament made from your wedding flowers. And she could not wait to make handmade slippers for anyone who was interested. She loved spending time with others and was a notorious card shark. She loved spending time in her garden and always put together the most beautiful bouquets. Mary Ann lived a beautiful life and loved unconditionally.
