Back to School Dance Scheduled for Friday, August 26
The Student Council under the direction of Ms. Jacki Coiro of the Social Studies Department is sponsoring the first dance of the new school year. The dance will take place in the Bishop Crowley Activity Center (BCAC) immediately following the Marian vs Adams football game on Friday, August 26. All Marian students are invited. The cost of admission to the dance is $3 at the door. Marian students must obtain a guest pass from Mrs. Imus in the Attendance Office if they want to bring a guest. The dance is scheduled to end at 11:30 p.m. Parents can drop off and pick up students in the north parking lot near the football field.

Prom Time!
The Junior Senior Prom is Saturday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Palais Royale. The ticket price is $35 per person and includes dinner, dancing, and a prom keepsake. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. The prom ends at 11:30 p.m.
The After Prom follows at Chippewa Bowl until 2:30 a.m. The After Prom is free to all Marian juniors and seniors and their dates. Marian juniors and seniors may attend After Prom whether they attended the prom or not. The After Prom Committee will provide plenty of food, soft drinks, bottled water, a variety of games, and prizes, as well as bowling and more bowling.

Annual Open House for Prospective Students and their Families
Marian High School's annual Open House for prospective students and their families is Sunday, November 13 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the Marian Family! Guests will tour the building, meet the teachers, preview the entire curriculum, and see students' work on display. A variety of clubs and organizations, as well as 23 different athletic teams will have information available for visitors. Parents of 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders in the area are strongly encouraged to attend to experience what Marian has to offer.

Annual Academic Awards Ceremony
The Academic Awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gymnasium of the Bishop Crowley Activity Center. The School Counseling Department under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Tiller honored many outstanding Marian students for their achievements during the 2011-2012 academic year. Congratulations to all of the students who received awards! At the end of the ceremony, the moderators of the Marian chapter of the National Honor Society, Mrs. Jennifer Gargac and Mrs. Ann Rutherford, asked the club's present officers to install the NHS officers for next year.

Three Researchers Headed to the International Science Fair!
Seniors Connor Burke, Jimmy Firth and Tony Spalding were selected to advance to the ISEF International Science & Engineering Fair to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from May 13-18. These three competitors bring the total number of Marian research students attending the International Science Fair to 28 since 1990!

Frosh In/ Frosh Out Event on Friday, May 4
The Class of 2015 joyfully invites the Class of 2016 to the annual Frosh in/Frosh out Event on Friday, May 4 from 8:00 -10:30 p.m. in the Bishop Crowley Activity Center. There will be music, games, and contests. All students are asked to dress appropriately for a school activity. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and to see old friends. An invitation is required and the cost is $3 at the door. Invitations were mailed to those who are registered in the Class of 2016. Call the school if you have questions.

Placement Exam for Incoming Freshmen
The placement exam for incoming freshmen (Class of 2016) will be administered on Saturday, December 10 at Marian High School. The exam requires three hours and includes five subtests. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10. Testing should be completed at approximately 11:30 a.m. There is a $20 fee for the exam.
This is not an admissions test. Its purpose is to provide information to the school regarding each student's abilities and thus help determine the most appropriate courses and levels of classes a student should take during freshman year. All incoming freshmen are required to take a placement exam before classes can be scheduled.

Congratulations Quiz Bowl Team!
Marian High School's Quiz Bowl team finished the regular season in the St. Joseph Valley Quiz Bowl League undefeated with a 9-0 record! Members of the varsity team are: Connor Burke, Ian Bussan, Carly Gettinger, Jesse Gettinger, Stephen Hicks, Eddie Hunckler, Angela Kirori, Caty Long, and Stacie Skwarcan. Alternates are Katie Chustak and Rachel Hoffman. The team is coached by Mr. Ken Andrzejewski, Chairperson of the Science Department. Boys Basketball Team Wins Regional Title!
Congratulations to the Marian Boys Basketball team (22-4) who won the Class 3A Regional and competed in the Semi-State at Huntington North High School. We are proud of our team consisting of Devin Cannady, Brian Florin, Nicholas Johnson, Demetrius Jackson, Michael Whitfield, Coley Schultheis, Alexander Disberry, Robert Mischler, Zach Zehender, Michael Henry, Christopher Stager, and Andrew Hasler.

Quiz Bowl Ready to Compete at State!
Marian's Quiz Bowl team finished the regular season as undefeated league champions, (8-0), were runners-up at the St. Joseph Valley league tournament, and will compete at the State Quiz Bowl tournament on Saturday, March 17 at Lafayette Harrison High School. The team consists of Ian Bussan, Jesse Gettinger, Stephen Hicks, Connor Burke, Angela Kirori, Caty Long, Eddie Hunckler, Carly Gettinger, Stacie Skwarcan, and Katie Chustak. We wish the team the best of luck in the state tournament. Go Knights!

Congratulations to the NIC MVP!
Junior Demetrius Jackson was chosen as the Northern Indiana Conference Most Valuable Player for boys basketball in March 2012. Senior Robert Mischler was named to the All-NIC Second Team and Senior Coley Schultheis was awarded All-NIC Honorable Mention. These three led the Knights to a second place finish in the conference.

Grandparents Day at Marian on Tuesday, November 22
We are thankful for Grandparents! All grandparents of Marian students are invited to the Annual Grandparents Day on Tuesday, November 22 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. with light refreshments in the Bishop Crowley Activity Center (BCAC). Roving photographers will be available. An all school assembly and prayer service emphasizing gratitude will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Gymnasium. Tours of the newly renovated classrooms will be available after the assembly. Grandparents are asked to park in the north lot (near the football field) and enter through the doors on the north side of the building. Handicapped parking will also be available in the east parking lot near the Main Entrance. Junior Selected for Summer Program in Business!
Junior Michael Kokot was selected to receive a full scholarship for tuition to attend OLAB (Opportunities to Learn about Business) on the campus of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana from July 8-14, 2012. OLAB is a highly interactive, challenging summer program sponsored by Central Indiana businesses, philanthropic organizations, past participants, and Wabash College for students entering their senior year of high school. Students learn the basics of business while spending the week on the campus of Wabash College.

cheerleading, volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, tennis, wrestling, soccer, and poms. The coaches are looking forward to working with students in Grades K-12 from June 11-July 20. July 1-8 is IHSAA Moratorium Week for all sports which means there will be NO activities during this time.

Research Students Earn 2nd Place in Junior Academy of Science Competition
On Monday, November 7, 25 members of Marian High School’s Science research classes participated in the Junior Academy of Science competition in Bloomington.
The combined scores of all participants earned Marian 2nd place as the Most Outstanding School in the entire Junior Academy competition! Congratulations to the students and to their teachers, Mr. Ken Andrzejewski and Dr. Doug Sisk.

Orientation for Parents of Freshman and Transfer Students Scheduled for Thursday, August 11
Parents of the freshmen (Class of 2015) and those upperclassmen who are transfering to Marian are invited to an Orientation on Thursday, August 11 in the Marian Cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet the Marian administrators as they introduce themselves and their duties for the upcoming school year. There will be time for parents to ask questions. Refreshments will be served.

Placement Test for Interested 8th Graders Scheduled
The Placement Test for prospective members of the Class of 2016 (incoming freshmen) is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at Marian High School. The test takers need to arrive by 8:15 a.m. and the test will be given from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. There is a $20 fee for the test. Please pre-register by calling the school at 259-5257.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Class of 2012 Announced!
Congratulations to Jennifer Porile who was named the Valedictorian of the Class of 2012 and to Tracy Scott who was named the Salutatorian of the Class of 2012. They will be delivering the valedictory and salutatory addresses at the Marian Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 25 at the Morris Center for Performing Arts in South Bend.

Auction 2012 was moved to Friday, March 16 so that Marian fans could attend the boys basketball semi-state game. The general chairs Diane Coiro and Maureen Koscielski worked with the committee chairs and many volunteers to put together a fantastic evening filled with great prizes, music, and fellowship. Panel Presentation for Interested Parents
Parents of students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 who are interested in learning more about Marian High School are invited to a Panel Presentation on Wednesday, November 2. The panel will consist of students, parents, and administrators who will share the good news about a Marian education. The event will take place from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library. There will also be time for parents to ask questions. This is a great way to find out more about a Catholic education!

After Prom Party!
The 20th annual After Prom Party will take place at Chippewa Bowl from 12:00 midnight to 2:30 a.m. immediately following the Prom on Saturday, April 21. Chippewa Bowl is located at the corner of Main and Chippewa Streets in South Bend. There will be bowling, games, and prizes. Pizza, sub sandwiches, and desserts will be served. Admission is free for Marian juniors and seniors and their dates whether they attend the prom or not! Parents of juniors and seniors make this event possible by chaperoning and donating the food, bottled water, gift certificates and money to purchase the prizes. Another Noteworthy Performance!
Marian High School's Chamber Choir directed by Mrs. Jeanette Dripps won two Gold Medals at the ISSMA State Festival on April 19, 2012 at Concord High School. They performed Homage, Sing Me to Heaven, and He'll Make a Way in the competition. They were awarded Gold Medals in Performance and in Sight Singing. Their next performance will be at the Fine Arts Festival on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bishop Crowley Activity Center.

Peer Tutoring is Available After School in Room 216
Members of the National Honor Society (NHS) are available to tutor students from 3:15 until 4:00 p.m. in Room 216. The NHS members are under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Gargac and Mrs. Ann Rutherford. The tutors are available Monday through Thursday. All students are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity on a regular basis or as needed. The library is open after school until 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. This is a great place to study, to complete homework, to do research on the computer, or to work on a class project.

National Merit Scholars Announced
Principal Carl Loesch is pleased to announce that Marian’s Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program are: Jesse Gettinger and Christopher Sokolowski. Jesse is a graduate of Bremen Middle School and a member of St. Dominic Parish. Christopher is a graduate of St. Anthony de Padua School and a member of that parish. Jesse and Christopher are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by an outstanding performance on the qualifying test. Their scores on the PSAT/NMSQT place them in the top 5% of the nation!
Angela Kirori has been named one of the 3,100 Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. She scored in the top 3% of more than 160,000 Black Americans who took the test. Angela is a graduate of St. Anthony de Padua School.
Congratulations and best wishes to these three scholars as they continue to excel at the university level.

Enrollment packets were mailed to returning students and to the incoming freshman in late January. Returning students registration papers and $100 registration fee are due by March 2. Marian's Science Olympiad Team Takes Second Place in Regionals!
The Marian Science Olympiad team won 2nd place at the St. Joseph’s College Regional on February 18. This advances the team to State competition on March 24. The Marian Science Olympiad team has advanced to State every year for the past 8 years!

Back to School Night for Parents
Parents are invited to attend Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. The evening begins in the Bishop Crowley Activity Center (BCAC) at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is asked to be on time to hear about the excitement that has been generated by the u.Knight campaign's renovation of seventeen classrooms! Parents will be reporting to classes beginning at 7:00 p.m. Parents will attend all seven of their son's or daughter's classes to meet the teachers and hear firsthand about the requirements, homework, and grading. The evening ends in the cafeteria with refreshments provided by the Parents Club. Please do not miss this important opportunity to participate in the education of your sons and daughters!

Congratulations to Coach Reggie Glon!
Marian's head football coach Reggie Glon has been named the Indianapolis Colts/NFL Coach of the Week, a program presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He was selected after the Knights defeated Washington 28-14 on Friday, September 16. Coach Glon was quick to share the award and the credit with the entire team and coaching staff.

Congratulations and best wishes to senior Conner Burke who is the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution's (DAR's) Good Citizen award winner for the current year. Conner demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree to earn this award. He has been recognized at the local level and is continuing to compete for state and national awards.

Homecoming Celebration 2011
Students are encouraged to dress down during Homecoming Week 2011 based on the themes selected by the Student Council. Dressing down according to the theme is considered a way of showing school spirit. All themed outfits must be appropriate for school!

Scholastic Art and Writing Award Winner Receives Scholarship!
Last year, the Scholastic Art and Writing Alliance for Young Artists and Writers began an “Alliance Summer Art Program.” Any student who received a GOLD KEY in art or writing and fulfilled a certain income requirement could apply for a variety of summer workshops throughout the country. Several Marian GOLD KEY winners applied this year. It is a very limited program and a very small percentage receive this opportunity. Let us congratulate Stacie Skwarcan '13 who received a GOLD KEY in both writing and art this year and then was awarded this scholarship! She has been invited to attend a creative writing workshop at the University of Iowa during the summer of 2012.

Freshman Wins Scholarship to Study at Oxford!
Congratulations to Marian freshman Joan Becker who has received a full scholarship to study during the summer at Oxford University! Only 105 of all students throughout the United States who apply are accepted into the program. Joan will study English Literature and Drama for one month at Oxford in July and will conclude her program in Paris. Congratulations to Joan for receiving such a prestigious scholarship for summer study!

Welcome Class of 2015!
The faculty and staff of Marian High School welcomed 200 freshmen and 32 transfers during Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 16. Now all of these new members of the Marian family are attending their nine classes each day. Mrs. Jennifer Tiller of the Counseling Office will be meeting with the freshmen during homeroom period to share ideas for managing the transition to high school. Mrs. Cook of the Counseling Office will be meeting with the transfer students on a regular basis to explain rules and procedures, as well as to answer questions.

Marian Students Participate in Eric's Promise
The entire Marian community will be participating in Eric’s Promise beginning on Ash Wednesday. This will be the tenth year that this program that began at Marian will encourage everyone to collect usable items and donate them to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Summer P.E. Class Available!
For the second year in a row, Marian will offer a summer P.E. class for one credit. The cost for the course will be $275. The class will meet in the mornings for three weeks from June 4 - June 22. Activities will include frisbee, lacrosse, bocce ball, aerobics, dancing, soccer, tennis, flag football, bowling, croquet, cricket, field hockey and more. The 2011-2012 academic year is off to a great start for 720 students at Marian! Based on the early results of the Marian U.Knight Capital Campaign sixteen classrooms were updated during the summer of 2011. The classrooms and hallways were ready for all students on the first day of classes. More ISSMA Winners Announced!
Marian students won twelve gold medals and five silver medals in the ISSMA District Solo and Ensemble Contest at Clay High School. Jerri Moran, Caty Long, Melissa Thomas, Paulina VanOverberghe, and Gustavo VanOverberghe received gold medals and will advance to state competition. Monte Parker, Melanie Williams, Maggie Wanecke, Tyler Marcotte, Kevin Ericson, and Grace Fletcher also received gold medals. Abby Kowalski, Divine Abizera, Katie Arterbery, Elizabeth Eversole, and an ensemble consisting of Allie Lesh, Sarah Price, Melanie Williams, Katie Arterbery, and Caty Long received silver medals.
Congratulations to Caty Long, Jerri Moran, Paulina VanOverberghe, and Gustavo VanOverberghe who all received gold medals at the state competition!

Additional Scholastic Art Award Winners Named!
Congratulations are in order for the following young artists. Luis Juarez was awarded the Dick Blick Certificate Award for his textile felt entitled "Becoming Spring." Elise Gerstbauer won a Visual Voice Award for her pastel entitled "Cyborg Mirror Self Portrait." Hayden Regina won an Honorable Mention for his portfolio. Barbara Fulnecky won the Hoosier Art Patron Award and the Art Institute of Chicago OxBow Scholarship for her watercolor painting entitled "Native Sunset."

Summer Computer Credit Available
The Business and Marketing Department will again offer Computer Applications I as a summer school class for credit during the summer of 2012. The cost of the course will be $275. By taking the course during the summer, students would be free to take another elective during the school year. The class is scheduled to meet from Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 29 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Space is limited so contact Mr. Tim Barwick at tbarwick@marianhs.org if you are interested in enrolling.

Winners at Regional Science Fair!
On Saturday, March 3, 2012, twenty-seven Marian High School students competed in the Northern Indiana Regional Science & Engineering Fair at Stepan Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Once again, the Marian tradition of Excellence in Science Research was upheld! Marian student researchers took six of the ten available spots to advance to the Hoosier Science & Engineering Fair in Indianapolis on March 31. Congratulations to Connor Burke, Jimmy Firth, Maria Hite, Michael Kokot, Tony Spalding and Selena Staun will compete for spots at the International Science & Engineering Fair held in Pittsburgh in May. All of the twenty-seven winners and their awards follow.

Congratulations to Students Awarded Science Research Grants
Eighteen Marian Science Research students applied for Indiana Academy of Science Junior Research Grants during 2011. Fifteen students were awarded grants in the full amount requested. Science Research Awards
Congratulations to the Marian Research class for an excellent showing at the 2011 Indiana Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. Marian students won eight of the top nineteen spots in the state!

Light of Learning Award Winner for 2012 Announced
Marian High School’s Light of Learning Award winner for 2011-2012 is Mrs. Tara Ton. She has taught in the Social Studies Department at Marian for 16 years. She teaches World History and Geography/History of the World. Mrs. Ton initiated the ACP Introduction to Teaching class at Marian four years ago. This course has gotten Marian students excited about the vocation of teaching.
Mrs. Ton has a B.A. in Social Studies Education from Indiana University South Bend and a Masters in Education from University of St. Mary’s in Leavenworth, Kansas. She is also the enthusiastic coach of the Marian Poms. This takes an enormous amount of time and energy. The competitive dance team has known great success under the direction of Mrs. Ton.

Comic Book Published!
Congratulations to juniors Mary Gring and Melissa Thomas who were honored at the Robinson Center on February 17. Mary and Melissa were the co-creators of both the story line and the illustrations in a published comic book. The comic book now being distributed throughout the area as part of Memorial Hospital's efforts to prevent bullying.

Marian Artist Wins National Gold Medal!
Congratulations to freshman Denise Veldman who earned a National Gold Medal from the Scholastic Art competition for her mixed media felting artwork entitled Sunset. Denise will be invited to Carnegie Hall in New York City where she will receive her award and attend workshops with professional artists. Fewer than 1% of the entire nation receive an award of this magnitude! Marian High School students have earned 14 of these national awards in the last seven years. Last year's winner was Laura Herron and her photograph entitled Unbreakable was selected by the staff of the U.S. Department of Education to be included in a special exhibition of national award winning artwork. Laura's photo is one of 54 works on display in the lobby of the Department of Education building in Washington, D.C.

Lumen Dei Awards Announced
Congratulations to seniors Melanie Williams and Sean Myers who were given Lumen Dei (Light of God) Exemplar Awards by the Knights of Columbus, Father Badin Council 4263. The Council is predicated on patriotism, unity, fraternity, and charity. The Lumen Dei Award is given in recognition and appreciation for an extraordinary example of courage, love, inspiration, leadership, and commitment to Christian living while serving Jesus, the Catholic Church, school, and community.

Marian Senior Named Fischoff Artist of the Month
In December, senior Thomas Hunter Stachowiak was selected as the Fischoff Artist of the Month for his accomplished play of the violin and viola. Fischoff's Artist of the Month program recognizes the achievements of outstanding high school musicians within the Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan region. Each month, a selection committee honors a student for his/her musicianship and citizenship. Winners are recognized in local newspapers and receive a scholarship.

Thank you for Santa's Workshop!
The Marian Art Club would like to thank everyone who participated in the 13th annual Santa’s Workshop for the guests at the Center for the Homeless in downtown South Bend on Thursday, December 8 from 6:30-8:45 p.m. The members of the Art Club provided 10 craft tables so that the guests of all ages could create Christmas gifts for their loved ones.

Science Fair Winners at State Competition
On Saturday, March 31, 2012, the 24th Annual Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair was held on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis. Marian had 6 competitors: Maria Hite (’13), Michael Kokot (’13), Connor Burke (’12), Jimmy Firth (’12), Tony Spalding (’12) and Selena Staun (’12). Connor Burke, Jimmy Firth and Tony Spalding were selected to advance to the ISEF International Science & Engineering Fair to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from May 13-18. These three competitors bring the total number of Marian research students attending the International Science Fair to 28 since 1990!

Science Award Announced
Congratulations are in order! Jimmy Firth '12 has been selected as one of the top eleven high school student researchers to compete in the 2011 Indiana Science Talent Search. The competition will be held at Indiana University, Kokomo on October 21 and 22. Jimmy’s project dealt with creating a simple, economic, paper-based method to identify inappropriate additives in anti-malarial drugs. The entire Marian community wishes Jimmy well as he continues the Marian tradition of competing in the Indiana Science Talent Search.

Junior Civitan members have already completed over 2,000 hours of service this year!
Marian students have volunteered at events such as the Christ Child Society Love Shine Dinner and Auction, the St. Joseph County CROP Hunger Walk, the St. Margaret’s House Winter Walk, and the LOGAN Wish Upon a Star event. They have also volunteered with many other local organizations, including the Center for the Homeless, Hannah’s House, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus, and many more.

Science Olympiad Winners Announced!
The Marian Science Olympiad team traveled to Indiana University Bloomington on March 22- 24 to compete in the Indiana State Science Olympiad Tournament. Marian qualified for the state competition along with 25 other schools. The Marian team placed 10th overall in the State! This is the highest placement Marian has achieved in the eight or more years that the school has qualified for the state level. Marian team members medaled in nine different events. Special recognition goes to Stacie Skwarcan and Alex Frank who were State Champions in the Rocks and Minerals event.

Kiwanis Youth Leadership Award
The Mishawaka Kiwanis Club recognizes worthy high school seniors who demonstrate high academic achievement, significant leadership ability, high moral character, participation in extra-curricular activities, service, and regard for others. The seniors selected must be members of the National Honor Society. The fall winners of the Kiwanis Club Youth Leadership Award at Marian were Bridget Doyle and Connor Burke.

Marian Receives a Grade of "A" or "Exemplary" on A.Y.P.
Congratulations are in order as Marian High School received a grade of "A" or an "Exemplary" rating on Adequate Yearly Progress (A.Y.P.) and Public Law 221 from the state of Indiana's Department of Education. Thank you to the students, teachers, and parents for their hard work in earning this distinction. The A.Y.P. measures the Graduation Rate and the percentage of students passing the End of Course Assessments (ECAs) in Algebra I and English 10. Biology ECA scores do not count in terms of A.Y.P., but it is important to note that Marian's Biology test scores were 11 percentage points greater than the next highest school in the area.

Excellence in Teaching Award Winner Announced
Principal Carl Loesch and the Marian School Board are honored to present the Excellence in Teaching Award for 2011 to Mrs. Kathryn Gunty of the Fine Arts Department. Marian High School is especially blessed by teachers who are dedicated to excellence in Catholic education, all of whom are deserving of this award. This year’s voting by students, faculty and parents resulted in several teachers receiving many votes.

Governor Daniels Honors Marian Researcher, Tim Trippel '11
Governor Mitch Daniels visited Marian High School to present senior Tim Trippel with the Governor's Award for the Top Young Scientist in the State of Indiana and a $10,000 scholarship. Several other students in the sciences were also honored for awards they won at the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair. Both Trippel and fellow senior KG Koch earned an all expense paid trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California.

Marian Seniors Nominated to U.S. Service Academies
U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly has nominated twenty-two area students for admission into U.S. service academies. Donnelly based his nominations on outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills, and commitment to a career in the armed forces. The Marian nominees are:
Kyle Luczkowski of South Bend was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Robert Mischler of Mishawaka was nominated to the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Congratulations and best wishes to these two outstanding students as they make their final decisions.

Regional Science Fair Winners
On Saturday, March 5, the 27 members of the Marian High School Science Research class competed at the Northern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair at the University of Notre Dame. Twenty-seven was a record number of participants from any one school. Seven of the ten winners that advance to the State Science Fair (and perhaps then to the International Science Fair) were from Marian! It is also important to note that Marian science researchers won over $16, 500 in awards!

Marian High School is pleased to announce that the new Director of Guidance is Mrs. Jennifer Tiller. Mrs. Mary Barnard is the new Administrative Assistant in the Guidance Department. They are ready and willing to assist Marian students and their families. Marian Students Participate in March for Life in Washington, D.C.
Marian’s Right to Life group, the Knights for Life, participated in the March for Life in Washington, D.C. during January 2011. A total of 59 students represented Marian at the March for Life. The itinerary included touring the sights on Sunday, January 23 followed by Mass with Bishop Kevin Rhoades at the historic St. Matthew’s Cathedral. The group stayed at St. James Parish, Arlington. They toured the Capitol building on Monday morning and then joined thousands of people in the annual March for Life up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court Building.

National Award Winners Named!
The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers is honored to announce that two Marian seniors have received national recognition for their creative abilities. Laura Herron won a Gold Medal in Photography and Tess Gunty won one Gold Medal and three Silver Medals in Creative Writing.
