How We Help Students
The Marian High School Counseling Program is dedicated to enabling all students to experience educational success by providing counseling in the areas of academic, career, and citizenship development; counseling to help students overcome challenges that interfere with learning; and advocacy for an environment that supports high achievement for all students. Through the school counseling program, students become successful learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of society.
The Counseling Department fulfills its mission by offering college advising, career discernment tools, academic support/tutoring and accommodations for varied learning pathways, and personal counseling in times of need.
The Four Cornerstones of the Marian Counseling Department
Further, we work with teachers, students and parents regarding student academic progress. We advise students for study skills and tutoring opportunities. Students with documented personal and academics needs are served through the Learning Strategies Center.
Additionally, we maintain close communications/relationships with college admission officers across the country; facilitate personalized college tour groups for our students; host numerous on-campus visitations by college admission representatives throughout the year. As part of the college admission process, we provide guidance in understanding and applying for financial aid, including the College Process Evening for senior parents in the fall.
Marian uses Naviance which supports a college-bound culture by encouraging students to explore post-secondary educational options and organizing the college application process. Based upon our relationship with each student and using the information gained through Naviance, we are able to personalize the college application process and discernment of college choices.
The Marian School Counseling office is no longer sending information through the Blackboard Connect system. Please refer to the many web pages found within the School Counseling section of the Marian High School website for information and updates.
The Counseling Department pages found within www.marianhs.org hold valuable information about topics under the four cornerstones of our mission. The counselors recommend students and parents read through these pages that can answer many common questions, then call the Counseling Office for further information as needed.
The Marian Counseling Department hosts its own telephone and fax numbers to enable more direct communications with students and families.
How do I visit my counselor?
How do I visit my counselor?
To see a counselor, stop by the Marian Counseling Office. Most quick questions or issues can be resolved on the spot. Others may require an appointment, which can be made at that time. We love our student visits!
