Dual Credit and Advanced Placement Courses

Marian High School is a regional leader in offering dual credit and advanced placement (AP) courses for our students. Marian offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to earn college credit while completing courses. These challenging courses assist students in meeting the state requirements for the Academic Honors Diploma, as well as preparing them for rigorous academic work at colleges and universities.

Additional information on course transfers can be found at Transfer IN.

Please refer to the Marian Academic and Curriculum Handbook for current course descriptions.

Marian High School offers college-level classes to students while in high school. Through partnerships with Indiana University, Holy Cross College, and Ivy Tech Community College, Marian offers a variety of dual credit courses that count for both high school and college credits. While the overwhelming majority of our dual credit courses are taught by Marian high school faculty, on occasion some courses are led by adjunct college faculty or college faculty at the high school, at the college or university, or sometimes through online courses. These courses are offered at no or very modest additional cost to the student, depending on the partner college or university.

Marian faculty members teaching courses designated as dual credit meet the credentialing requirements of the dual credit institution and the licensing requirements of the Indiana Department of Education. Course content is identical to on-campus offerings and incorporates the same syllabi, class assignments, and examinations while utilizing comparable textbooks and resources. Students taking dual credit classes meet the same academic readiness standards as students taking the courses on campus. Students must meet qualification criteria in order to be enrolled in the dual credit course.

Marian High School provides a wide variety of advanced placement courses for its students. Marian faculty members are approved to teach Advanced Placement (AP) courses by the College Board. AP courses provide students the opportunity to earn college credit as determined by the college or university based upon a student’s score on the AP exam given in May of each academic year. While some AP tests are covered by Indiana state funding programs, students are responsible for paying any testing fee not covered by the state.

Additional information can be found at College Board.
